I miss hiking and it's nice to be back on trail. With the long weekend coming and a fine day for a walk, my friend and i went to try hiking from Discovery Bay to Mui wo. It's an easy hike from the previous trail that i've tried since…(when was that again?)ah, i can't remember now, maybe later. Anyways, it took us 2 hours to get it done with short stops for picture taking and a rest after some steep climb up. It's all concrete covered path and some shades from the trees so you won't have to worry too much if you'll get burned in the sun.
Starting from the Discovery Bay Bus terminal of buses DBR01 from Tung Chung and BDR03 from Sunny Bay MTR Station… [flickr-photo:id=8034943921,size=m] turned around and walk up to the main road, turn left and walk pass La Costa down to the intersection. [flickr-photo:id=8034943677,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034942944,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034942610,size=m]
Cross the street and walk to the small entrance in the middle with red tape and you will see the sign post towards Nim Shue Wan. [flickr-photo:id=8034942400,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034942066,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034941846,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034941596,size=m] From here you have a nice view of marina. Follow the path to the right passing thru some house. [flickr-photo:id=8034941034,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034940654,size=m]
Passed the houses, you will come to a fork keep left and continue but on the third one, veer to the right, cross the short bridge and ahead follow the sign to monastery. [flickr-photo:id=8034940475,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035007801,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035006948,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035007187,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035006426,size=m]
Keep going pass the banana plantation and vegetable beds up ahead. [flickr-photo:id=8035006543,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035006285,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035004738,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035004416,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035004146,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035004323,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035003455,size=m]
You will pass thru another houses front and will occasionally meet some hikers and runners that came back from Mui wo.Pass the houses the concrete path continues, keep going up the steps ahead. [flickr-photo:id=8035003237,size] [flickr-photo:id=8035001973,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035000778,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035000335,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8035000065,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034999388,size=m]
You will see another sign post, follow through and you won't get lost for sure. [flickr-photo:id=8034999491,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034998832,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034998855,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034997636,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034996550,size=m]
Along the way, we found this abandoned beehive dried on the right and on the left the water flowing from the faucet. [flickr-photo:id=8034996235,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034995524,size=m]
From here the path is going down and you'll come to a crossed path, take the right direction. Here you will see some station of the cross attached to the tree and continue up to the steep road till the Our Lady of Joy Abbey. [flickr-photo:id=8034993075,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034992000,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034991679,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034989134,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034989457,size=m]
The blue bridge on right goes to the monastery, keep right. [flickr-photo:id=8034988366,size=m]
Here, take the middle path, there's a sign going to Mui wo. You'll see orb weaver and tiny stream.. [flickr-photo:id=8034988046,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034988247,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034987078,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034986923,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=/8034986227,size=m]
Continue to the steep path ahead up to the start of the steps to Look out point. Take the short cut trail on the right. [flickr-photo:id=8034985320,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034984636,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034984356,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034982642,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034981592,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034980433,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034979508,size=m]
Out the shortcut at the end of the stairs from the look out point are the steps all the way down. Here you will have a view of Mui wo and the sunset peak.
You will have much great view on a clearer day. [flickr-photo:id=8034979445,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034978906,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034975738,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034970567,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034970191,size=m]
And the final path down the beach. [flickr-photo:id=8034962671,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034961976,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034961919,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034961058,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034960915,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034960098,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034958619,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034956614,size=m]
At the beach, it's easy to find your way to the ferry terminal. You can take a rest to the benches along the seaside.Watch out to those bikers speeding up. [flickr-photo:id=8034956559,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034954728,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034954054,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034952441,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034949982,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034949993,size=m]
If you still have full of energy, you can rent a bike here while waiting for the ferry going back to Discovery Bay or to Central. [flickr-photo:id=8034949397,size=m] [flickr-photo:id=8034948791,size=m]
We enjoyed this hike and looking forward to try the other 2 alternative route from Discovery to Mui wo trail. Happy reading. .
